The Colony, City by the Lake, is one of the best-kept secrets in the heart of North Texas. The Colony sits on 15.7 square miles filled with outdoor adventure, live entertainment, retail shopping, unique restaurant and bar amenities.

The City by the Lake, with its strikingly beautiful views of Lewisville Lake, extends 23 miles along its eastern shoreline. Residents and visitors alike immerse themselves in a myriad of outdoor recreational opportunities starting along the 8-mile Shoreline Trail and The Tribute Shoreline Nature Trail, a little over 3 miles long. Walkers, runners, cyclers, leased dogs and nature lovers are welcome on the trails from dawn to dusk daily. Additionally, expect to enjoy year-round camping, fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, picnicking, and cycling.
Only 20 miles north of Dallas, The Colony is conveniently located on SH 121, the Sam Rayburn Tollway, six miles east of I-35E and 2 miles west of the Dallas North Tollway and less than 20 miles from the DFW International Airport.

In The Colony proper, there are six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school under L.I.S.D. leadership and an elementary STEM school within the Little Elm I.S.D. The Colony students consistently are recognized for their excellence in academics, arts, and athletics.

When The Colony was incorporated in 1977 there were 5,000 residents and now the community boasts over 42,300 in 2018.
